Hiring FAQ's

Is there parking available nearby?
Yes, there is an 8 space car park outside which we share with the shop. There is some on-street parking, but this depends on the time of day.
There is also space at the first floor level in Medley Court, the street next door due to the hill.

Are you on a bus route?
Yes, both the E and the F bus pass by the front door (Exeter buses have letters not numbers)
These both go into the city centre, but by slightly different routes.
However, they do not stop directly outside, the stops are about 20-40m away

What is the access like to the hall (level access? Is there a ramp? Any steps?)
The hall is on the first floor, with the front door on the ground floor.
However, there is a lift as well as stairs
There is level access to the first floor from Medley Court, the next street along.
There is parking at this level, but availability will depend on the time of day. It is also a little walk to the back door.

Do you have power points available for hirers’ use?
Yes, the building has sockets dotted along every wall

Is there a screen for presentations, or a blank wall on which to project slides?
There are blank walls and a very large picture can be projected.
There is no projection screen at this time, although this is something we are considering

Do you have a flipchart available for hire?
No, there are no flip charts

Tables and chairs? What kinds?
There are 40 folding chairs and 30 stacking plastic chairs.
There are 20 large folding tables plus a few smaller folding ones. In addition there are some fixed tables.

A kitchenette? (ie where hirers can make tea and coffee). If yes, does this have kettle, urn, cups and so on?
There is a kitchen next to the main hall with fridge-freezer, double sink, hand washing sink and a combined microwave, convection oven and grill.
There is also a large serving area with electric shutter, hand washing sink, preparation area and shelves for crockery and cups.
There is an Urn, kettle and coffee maker. There is a mixed collection of cups, but very little cutlery or crockery.
If you want to do catering of any kind you are advised to bring your own equipment.

Is there a wheelchair accessible toilet?
yes, on the ground floor

Is it okay for hirers to bring in outside caterers to provide a cold buffet to people participating in a meeting?
Yes, of course, but the hirer must remove all rubbish from the building and leave the place in a clean useable condition.
They would need to be covered by their own insurance and food handling certificates

What does the £50 deposit cover?
The Association is a voluntary organisation with no large financial reserves,
we ask for a £50 deposit in case of breakages, damage or extra cleaning costs.
This is the fairest way to ensure every hirer can enjoy the centre and encourages people to respect the building.
We normally take this amount as a guaranteed cheque which we cash in addition to the hire fee.
The building should be checked at the end of the hire, please ask the person locking up to go round with you.
We refund the deposit price taking off any costs a few days later
If extra costs are incurred we will need to bill these to the hirer.
Our insurance excess is £100, but we feel it would be unfair to ask for a £100 deposit.

Are bouncy castles allowed in the building?
No, the ceiling is too low and the sprinklers would be vulnerable to damage. No one wants broken glass on a bouncy castle.
However, you can put a bouncy castle on the patio at the back. The delivery people can park in Medley Court and take things on the level through the side gate.

Are there rubbish bins at the centre?
No, we have no rubbish bins so hirers are required to remove their property and any rubbish by the time they finish their session in the building.
We are keen that users of the building recycle as much rubbish as possible. Please bring your own bin bags or containers.

What happens if we run out of loo roll?
Most toilets have a double toilet roll holder. Additional rolls are stored in the kitchen behind the fridge area.
There should also be a special blue "key" to open the holders to replenish them.
Please tell the person locking up if the supplies have run out.
In an emergency there is a convience store on the ground floor which sells supplies.
